DISCOVER the Climate Impact of Your Food Products

Klimato’s Carbon Footprint (CF) Calculator is designed to help food producers evaluate the climate impact of their products by simplifying the carbon footprinting process. The tool calculates emissions throughout the product’s life cycle, from ingredient production to distribution, including processing, packaging, transportation, and food losses.

OUR APPROACH

The assessment is based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach, using primary data from the producer and secondary emission factors from Klimato’s extensive database.

Where data is unavailable, the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology is used to fill the gaps.

The total carbon footprint is expressed in kilograms of CO2 equivalents (kg CO2e), covering all greenhouse gas emissions throughout the product’s life cycle.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CF REPORT

The report includes a detailed breakdown of the carbon footprint per kilogram and per sales unit, along with an analysis of the different phases of the life cycle and their impact on emissions.

After the assessment, the product’s carbon footprint is added to Klimato’s database and featured in the Klimato app. This enables the reporting company to showcase their products to food service providers, emphasizing their commitment to sustainability. In turn, food service providers can incorporate the product into their recipes and calculate more precise Scope 3 emissions, providing a clearer picture of the environmental impact of their offerings.

FOUR STEPS TO YOUR FOOTPRINT

  1. Klimato provides a structured data collection form to guide the producer in gathering the necessary information.

  2. The producer collects and submits data, which includes factors such as ingredient origins, transport modes, processing details, packaging materials, and food storage conditions.

  3. Klimato performs the calculations and prepares a report detailing the climate impact results, along with an interpretation of the findings.

  4. Once completed, the product’s carbon footprint data is added to the Klimato app.
